How to connect a Wix site to Google Search Console
A Wix site connects to Google Search Console in one of two ways: through Wix's SEO Setup Checklist, which does the verification for you, or by pasting a meta tag from Google into Wix's Site Verification tool. Wix requires an upgraded site with its own domain connected before either will work.

What Wix requires first
Wix states two requirements: the site must be upgraded to a paid plan, and it must have its own domain connected. The domain can be one bought through Wix or one registered elsewhere. A free Wix site on a Wix address cannot be connected.
The site also has to be published. Search engines see only the published version.
The checklist route
Wix’s SEO Setup Checklist handles the connection without any code.
- Open the SEO Setup Checklist in the site’s SEO dashboard.
- Complete the first step of the checklist.
- Select Connect to Google.
Wix verifies the site with Google and submits the sitemap as part of the same step.
The manual route
The manual route suits a site whose owner already has a Search Console account, or wants to manage the property themselves.
- In Google Search Console, add the site as a property and choose the HTML tag method. Google gives a meta tag.
- In the Wix dashboard, open the SEO area, then Tools and settings, then Site Verification.
- Open the Google Search Console section, paste the meta tag and save.
- Return to Search Console and select Verify.
When verification fails
Wix’s troubleshooting advice covers the usual causes.
- The site is not published, so the tag is not on the live page.
- The home page is password protected or restricted to members, so Google cannot read it.
- The tag was pasted with something missing. Copy it again in full.
What to do once it is connected
Verification is the start. Three things make it useful.
- Submit the sitemap, if the checklist has not done so already.
- Use URL Inspection on the home page and each main page, and request indexing for any that Google has not yet read.
- Open the Page indexing report after a few days. It lists every page Google has left out and why.
Our guide to a Wix site not showing on Google explains the settings behind the most common reasons, and why your website is not showing up on Google explains the statuses in that report.
Questions people ask
Do I need a paid Wix plan to use Google Search Console?
Yes. Wix states that connecting to Google Search Console needs an upgraded site and a connected domain, which can be one bought from Wix or from another provider.
Why will my Wix site not verify with Google?
Wix names two common causes: the site has not been published, or the home page is password protected or for members only. Google cannot read the verification tag on a page it cannot reach.
What should I do after connecting Wix to Search Console?
Submit the sitemap, inspect the home page and the main service pages, and check the Page indexing report after a few days for anything Google has left out.
Free competitor gap report
Search Console shows how Google sees your site and nothing about anyone else's. Name up to three competitors and we measure their sites beside yours, then send you where they are ahead and what to fix first.
