What decides a local market
Google Business Profile
Set up or rebuilt properly: categories, services, photos, posts and the review process that keeps it active.
Local landing pages
A page for each service and each area you cover, written for the searches people there make.
A site that converts the visit
Fast on a phone, clear about what you do and where, with the call, the form and the map one tap away.
Local competitor tracking
The businesses you are up against, measured alongside you, so each report shows what changed and what did not.
How a local result is decided
Local results are mainly based on three things, by Google's own account: how well a business matches the search, how near it is to the person searching, and how well known it is. Nothing moves the second. The first and the third are built: a profile and a website that say exactly what the business does and where, and the reviews and links from other websites that show it is established.
A local market is also small enough to read in full. The businesses that appear for your main searches can each be measured page by page, which is why the work starts with a comparison and not with a list of general advice.
What the report compares in a local market
For each competitor you name, the report reads the same things on their site and on yours: the pages each has for its services and its areas, the searches those pages answer, how each site loads on a phone, and the faults that keep a page out of the results. The gaps are then listed in the order that closes the most of the gap.
Questions about local markets
Which competitors should a local business name?
Name the businesses that appear above you for your main service in your own area, on the map and in the results beneath it. A directory or a national chain can hold a local search, so the list is not always the rivals you would think of first.
Do you set up the Google Business Profile for us?
Yes. The profile is set up, or rebuilt where one exists, under your ownership: its categories, services and photos, and the process for asking customers for reviews.
We serve several towns. Does each one need its own page?
Usually, where the service or the customers differ from town to town. A page for an area earns its place by saying something particular to that area. A copy of another page with the town's name changed adds nothing a searcher can use.
