# The laws we work under.

Medusa works under the laws of Hadal Instruments, the company it belongs to. They are short, they are the same for a page of advice and for a client's website, and wherever code can enforce them, code does. They are also why this work is a pleasure to do: a claim that can be checked can be trusted, and a fault that can be measured can be fixed.

## The laws, and what each means for you

Hadal Instruments builds instruments that measure claims made in trading, where a false figure costs money. Its laws were written for that work, and [its own account of how they came to be written](https://hadalinstruments.com/about/) is public. The same laws govern this studio.

### Nothing is fabricated.

No invented figure, client, testimonial or result appears in anything we publish or send. A number that has not been measured is not printed, and a section with nothing real to say is left out.

Every figure in a report of ours can be followed back to the measurement it came from.

### A claim needs a receipt.

Work counts as done when it can be shown: a build that passed its checks, a measurement, a page you can load. A statement that something ought to work is not a receipt.

When we say a change is live, you can open it. When we say it was tested, the result is there to read.

### No result is promised.

No ranking, traffic figure or sale is promised, ever. Search engines decide positions and publish no timetable. What is ours to give, we commit to in full: the work, the measurement before and after, and a straight account of what moved and what did not.

You are told what the work is and how it will be judged, before it starts.

### The limit is stated with the result.

A finding says what it does not establish in the same breath as what it does. A page that rose after a change is not proof that the change raised it, and the report says which of the two it is showing.

You can tell a measured effect from a coincidence, because we tell you which is which.

### Unavailable is not zero. Applied is not verified.

A measurement that could not be taken is reported as not taken, never as a nought. A change that was made is reported as made. It is reported as working only when the measurement is repeated and shows it.

A gap in the data looks like a gap, and a job that is finished is kept apart from a job that is proven.

### Checks over promises.

A rule that matters is enforced by code that can refuse a release, and every check is proven able to fail before it is trusted. A failed check stops the work until its cause is found. It is never retried until it happens to pass.

The standard your site is built to does not depend on anyone remembering it.

### What is yours stays yours.

Your accounts and your data are held in your name. We work in them as users you can remove, so the record of what your site earns belongs to you whoever works on it next.

You can change who works on your site without losing a day of its history.

### No sugar coating.

If the measurement shows a competitor ahead, the report says so and says by how much. If a rebuild is not needed, we say that as well, even when the rebuild would be the larger job.

You hear the awkward finding first, while it is still cheap to act on.

### What is borrowed is named.

A fact about someone else's product is read in that company's own documentation and attributed to it. A method that is not ours is credited to whoever it belongs to.

You can check what we tell you against the source, without taking our word for it.

## Why laws make the work better

Laws like these are often read as caution. We read them as freedom. When nothing can be faked, nothing has to be defended, and the whole effort goes into the site: finding the fault, fixing it and measuring what happened. The measured version of a claim is also the convincing one.

Most of what holds a website back sits on the site itself, where it can be found, measured and put right. Working under laws that keep the findings honest is what makes that good news worth having.

## Where the laws are enforced

A law that depends on memory is a hope. Every release of this site is judged by 56 checks written for it and 45 inherited, and a single failure stops the release. Among them are checks that refuse a promised ranking, a stated headcount, a company detail that differs from the register, and a sentence copied across pages.

## How the guides are written

The guides on this site are written under the same laws. On a page of advice they come to these rules.

- Each guide answers one question that people search for, in the words they use.
- A statement about a platform or a search engine is read in its owner's documentation and attributed in the sentence that makes it.
- No guide promises a result, and none carries an affiliate link or a paid placement. This site takes no payment to mention anyone.
- Each guide shows the date it last changed, and that date is read from version control.
- Every guide passes the release checks before it is published, like every other page.

A guide that is wrong gets corrected. ## What the laws do not establish

The laws do not make a piece of work right. They make a wrong thing visible: a figure with no source, a claim with no receipt, a check that failed. The judgement about what to build is still ours to exercise, and the decision about what to do with a report is always yours.

## Free competitor gap report

The quickest way to see the laws at work is a report written under them. Name up to three competitors and we measure your site against theirs, then send you what was found, with the evidence and the limits of each finding.

1. Speed and technical health, side by side
2. On-page SEO and site structure
3. The content they are found for and you are not
4. Who holds the searches that matter in your market
5. A prioritised list of what to fix first
